As Founder of Team Rockland (then Red Raider PAL) in 1987 Laura began her coaching and teaching career at North Rockland HS. During her tenure as Assistant Coach for the NR Girls Swimming & Diving team (1987-1999) she helped lead the Girls 6 County Championships. As Head Coach for the Boys Swimming & Diving 88-95, 98-00’ Laura lead the Boys to their first Section I title in 1999. After a hiatus in 2000 Laura returned to us in 2007. Now working with our Age Group Team she brings with her an extensive understanding of technique and psychology of the sport. Her ability to switch gears and work with either young swimmers and/or senior swimmers is to be admired. Laura is recognized in the coaching and teaching community as a “motivator. Her strengths lie in her ability to help develop and enhance self confidence in our kids.
As a scholar athlete Laura competed for Grand Blanc HS, Grand Blanc, MI held several team records, and as full scholarship athlete for the University of Wyoming Cowboys held the team records in the 200, 500, 1000 and 1650 free.
Laura earned her BS degree in Art History from the University of Wyoming in 1981, BS in Art Education at St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) in 1987 and Masters in Art Education from the College of New Rochelle in 1991. In addition she is a respected teacher of 22 years at the North Rockland CSD.
Laura is instrumental in transitioning TRS swimmers from the age group level to senior level swimming and is directly responsible for the development and skills of many of TRS’s senior level swimmers. |
